Water Conflict

Objective: build a case study of an international conflict over water as a reource.

Outcomes:

Starter: what questions do this raise for you?

1. Make a list of types or examples of internationally shared resources. Rank your list and compare it with a partner.

2. Where does water rank on your list and why?

3. The Amu Darya and Syr Darya are examples of internationally shared water resources. Investigate them as a source of conflict. Conduct some research to see if there is any evidence of conflict.

4. Develop your own case study of one internationally shared water resource . Make sure you cover:

• facts about the water resources e.g. geographical and historical context, current water use,
• the role of different stakeholders in attempting to find a resolution
