Climate Change - Causes

Objective: share our opinion on climate change and explore the causes.

Starter: what links these images?

1. Describe the trend in global temperature in the past 8000 years.

2. Research and makes notes on two events in history that are thought to be responsible for major changes in climate. One example is the Laki volcanic eruption of 1783. Consider causes and effects.

3. Describe the ways in which humans are believed to contribute to climate change.

4. From the map below make notes to explain the RESPONSIBILITY of countries for climate change.

5. Now explore the map further:

• choose two countries (one MEDC, one LEDC) on the map - compare and contrast wealth against emissions.
• choose the two highest polluters and compare the total pollution with the pollution per capita.
• choose two countries of highly contrasting historical contribution and compare this with the Emissions change.

6. Explain the patterns you have identified in the previous question.
